Sustainability Across the Globe – U.S.

While we have observed ways in which structural engineers achieve sustainability, it remains important that we holistically understand the purpose of sustainability. More importantly, we must understand how our surrounding environment is affected by the structures we design. The general message remains just about the same despite the language being spoken, but the influencing factors behind sustainability will ultimately vary based on the global region.

This blog will explore sustainability across the globe, but specifically in the regions surrounding DeSimone’s office locations: New York City, Miami, Boston, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Medellin, and Abu Dhabi.

DeSimone’s Top Sustainable Building Projects

DeSimone fully promotes sustainability within our built environment. We strive to minimize our impact on the environment by endorsing sustainable and conservation ideals throughout all of our operations. We are proud to be a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) National Member organization and to have worked on numerous projects which have gained LEED Certification.

Here some of our best sustainable projects, which have gone above and beyond in delivering environmentally-conscious features in residential towers, offices, government buildings, and more.

The Visionaire

Project: The Visionaire

Location: New York, NY

Certification: LEED Platinum

The Visionaire is Battery Park City’s most environmentally responsive residential building. The 35-​story tower is a mixed-use development including 250 condominiums, a local organic market, and headquarters for the Parks Conservancy.

A Year In Review: DeSimone’s Top Projects of 2013

As we welcome 2014 with new resolutions and goals, we wanted to take a moment to look back on the past year at DeSimone. 2013 was a great year of growth and continued success, as we worked with some of the top developers and architects in the industry on several new, groundbreaking projects around the world. We took home ACEC New York, IDEAS2, SEAoNC, and CIB awards and were ranked in ENR’s 2013 Top 100 Green Design Firms and Top Design Firms lists, as well as being ranked the #4 Greenest Firm in the Multi-Residential Sector.

To celebrate the beginning of 2014, we want to pay tribute to the past year with a highlight of some of DeSimone’s top projects from this past year.

Zaha Hadid Architects

This 1.3 million-square-foot project with Prtizker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid will create an approximately 709-foot-tall, 62-story residential tower along the Biscayne Bay waterfront.
